Rob Huyser, director of aviation for the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, thinks The Netherlands plays an active part in aviation safety. The country should maintain this position.
He shared this view at the mini-symposium of Friends of AviAssist, where different speakers explained their visions on the safety of African Aviation.
According to Huyser the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment sees aviation safety as top priority. Aviation technology progresses rapidly and airtraffic increases. Policymakers will face quentions with every new accident, according to Huyser.
His ministry contributes on an international level to the increase of safety and to limiting the risks of flying over conflictzones. The Netherlands should uphold the proactive role to increase safety even further.
Regulations on safety are written on a pan-european level. Not all African airlines can fulfil those requirements, Huyser acknowledged. If an airline cannot meet the high demands, it will enter the EU ban list. Proflight Zambia is one of the arilines on that list.
The Dutch government helps to increase safety in several parts of the world, such as in Africa and the caribean. It does so by supporting AviAssist, which contributes to the increase of safety in Africa. This to Huysers satisfaction.
